I just learn a new technique to stop putting things off till tomorrow. It’s an acronym STING and easy to remember (Rita Emmett, author of The Procrastinator’s Handbook).
Here is how STING technique goes for stopping procrastinating:
S = Select just one thing to do – Read your novel? Or clean your junk drawer?
T = Time yourself - Find the timer in the junk drawer, and set it for 1hr. to do that one thing.
I = Ignore everything else – Other stuff that needs doing can wait otherwise you get sidetracked.
N = No breaks – Only bathroom break when absolutely needed otherwise you take too much time.
G = Give yourself a reward – Don’t reward yourself until the hour is up. (THAT’S A BREAK)
Rita suggests that we do the most dreaded task first and get it out of the way because that will cut down on dread time which can sometimes drag on for years and the dread for doing a task uses more time and energy than doing the task itself.
I better start making a things-to-do list and get on it and test that if it works for me.
