A poem from a Chinese friend which is translated by my older son with little of my help:

Longing (hope, desire) but not knowing

God created mankind, and endowed mankind with the power to hope.
But…
We long for a beautiful life, but don’t know the meaning of beauty.
We long for a happy family, but we don’t know how to go about building one.
We long for the riches of the world, but we don’t realize that these things won’t last.
We long for satisfactory from our sinful acts, but we don’t know that the cost is death.
We long for an unending life, but we don’t know where is this eternal life.
We long to free ourselves from hardships and sufferings, but we don’t know that we need to hold to God’s promises.
We long for other people’s love, but we don’t know that we can love others first.
We long to change ourselves, but we don’t know that we need to humble ourselves.
We long to think logically, but we don’t realize that our scope is limited.
We long for other people’s friendship, but we don’t know that we can give first.
We long to become a pillar, but we don’t know that it is given to us by God’s grace.
We long for smooth sailing, but we don’t realize the meaning of testing.
We long for no strife with the world, but we don’t realize the corruption of the world’s ways.
We long for self-protection with our wisdom, but we don’t realize that the evil is much outrageous.
We long to battle with the world, but we don’t know the source of our strength.
We long for nature’s beauty, but we don’t know that God is eternally almighty.
We long for the mysteries of the universe, but we don’t know the Lord’s godliness.
We long to follow the Lord, but we don’t know that we need to carry the Lord’s cross.
We long to risk our life for the Lord, but we don’t know that we need to depend on the Lord for victory.
We long for holiness of heaven, but we don’t know how to walk that road.
We long and long and long, but we don’t know how to receive.
Only with Yahweh, can we know.
Believing in Him is the only way.
