Excess TLC Speeds up The Aging Process
Some psychologists had studied that too much help to elderly can speed up their aging process. Too much help to elderly, either healthy or chronically ill, can do more harm than good to them.
In some nursing home, the staffs care for the elderly with dressing up, putting on shoes and glooming etc. The elderly become very dependent and lose motivation and interest to be creative. No motivation to do things for themselves can speed up their aging process.
The proper amount of tender loving care for the chronically ill elderly is good, but if too much, they become too dependent and they will lose the will power to fight the illness and prolong the recovery time. Psychologically, they still think that they are ill even when they are getting better. They want to be dependent. When their bodies and minds rest too much, the immune system as well as physical ability become weakening,
If the elderly can manage doing things for themselves, they should be encouraged to do so instead of helping them too much. Encouraging them to be independent can give them the opportunities to exercise their minds and bodies, which may even help them to prevent from Alzheimer.
