Far Away but Close in Heart
Thank God for Internet! During my children’s college years, we had communicated by e-mailing each other. I always felt the warmness by reading their e-mails over and over again when times I couldn’t reach them by phone. It’s always nice to hear their voice on the phone but the memories might soon fade away.
Now, there are their Webb logs. Ah, I always enjoy reading them, and feel warm and connected; not always about what they do but these are their writings, sharing their experience, and their inner thoughts: humor or anger, joy or pain, hope or worry and etc.
When my older son was in Beijing studying Chinese Language and Culture four years ago, he updated his Webb log very often to share his adventure and photos in China. We appreciated that because it made us feel close in heart.
Now, my younger son who is deployed to Afghanistan has also been updating his Webb log almost everyday thru younger daughter’s help sharing his adventure and experience. Although he is far away from us, I feel close in heart. We appreciate that.
Daughters, nieces and nephews and friends are also keeping their Webb logs; I always enjoy reading them as well and feel connected especially when they cannot always have time to visit us.
Thanks to my younger daughter for setting up a Webb log for me so I, too, can share my thoughts.
