Visited a friend's garden
A friend moved from my neighborhood to a big house with six acres of land. She loves to plant flowers and vegetables. It's harvest time, so she invited us (mother-in-law, husband and me) to share her joy, but mother-in-law declined. In the front yard, she had butter squash and watermelon from volunteer plants. You see she also loves to bury her kitchen scraps in the soil for the compost. In her backyard near the barn, her husband had confined a big area with wire and gate for the vegetable garden otherwise the deer and other small animals will chew up their garden. There were winter melons, fussy melons, bitter melons and Chinese okra; in between there were also pretty climbing blackeye susies, lilies, and marigolds. She gave us some Chinese okra and bitter melon.
Whenever we visited, she always cooked for us. This time was no different. We should have known and not have lunch before we went. Anyway, we just ate some for taste testing to be polite.
She made some chicken wings w/brown sugar and soy sauce, very tasty.
The bagel she made was thinly cut, toasted with butter on it, and drizzled with sweetened milk, very special.
She also roasted some almonds.
We had a good time chatting and eating.
