Today is the last week of eight sessions for Speechcraft program. We will have a graduation ceremony. Besides graduation speech, I have two more responsibilities: table topic master and present the word for the day (giving spelling, definition and examples so everyone will find the opportunity to use the word in their speeches as many times as possible). The word is 'prolific': adj.
1)producing offspring or fruit abundantly; fruitful: furtile
e.g. The tree is prolific because the soil is furtile
2)Producing much or abundantly; producing abundant works or results
e.g. He is a prolific writer, because he has published three books this year.
3)Abundantly productive of or fruitful in something specific
e.g. Toastmaster Speechcraft program is very prolific in producing many Toastmasters.
The word proliferate makes me think of the word prolific. When I worked in the lab, we find certain cells proliferate in our body can cause illness such as cancerous cells, and certain cells proliferate can suppress illness such as helper cells. In a bigger picture, if we have more good deeds and good wills in people, this world would be prolific, a better place to live.
I just hope everyone will have fun with this word and able to use it in their speech.
