The vice president of memberships for the Seven Seas Toastmaster Club invited my husband and I to their Christmas Party tonite. At 2:30pm, she called and asked me to be the humorous speaker for tonite. Oh no, I have no humor, but I would try. My topic would be "Only one wish"
“If you are allowed only one wish, what would you wish for?” my husband has asked me this question faithfully for years. Then, I laughed, “Why, you would grant that to me?” He answered, “oh no, not me; it's just in case that a Genie will.” Ok, I thought to myself that it should not be too hard. I thought for a while, then I scratched my head for a while but I did not come up with a wish. Every time he asked me that same question, my thought process repeated, and ended with the same blank look. My husband does not understand why it's so hard for me. I don't know either until one day I heard this story about a man and a woman.
They were in their sixty years of age; they were happily married and loved each other dearly. One day a Genie appeared in front of them and wanted to grant them each a wish for their good behavior toward each other for all these years. They were delighted to hear that. The man told his wife, "dear, lady first", the woman said, "ok, it should not be hard", then she turned to the Genie and says, "I would love to have two plane tickets to Hawaii, vacationing with my husband." The Genie said, "no problem, as you wish,"(make a gesture as the show I love Jeany) and the two tickets appeared in the woman's hand. Now Genie turn to the man and said “it's your turn young man” so the man said, " I always like to see my wife thirty years younger than me, " The Genie said, "no problem, as you wish," (another gesture) then the man immediately became ninety years old.
I realized why it is so hard for me to make that wish: maybe I have already got everyting, or maybe I need to join the Toastmasters first and make sure that my Genie understand what I really want to wish for.
