Life is like a stream of water
This is my ice-breaker speech for the Seven Seas TM Club

Life is like a stream of water, always running and always moving. Every obstacle is a challenge. Every challenge is a new experience. Every experience prepares us for the next challenge.
I was born in Canton, China. I don't remember much of China, but I do remember this little girl. Everyday, this little girl would be right next to her mother watching her sew, watching her embroider, and watching her cook. One day her mom gave her a piece of cloth. The little girl asked, “What this is for, mama,” Her mother said, “I will show you and teach you how to embroider and sew this into a beautiful handkerchief. The little girl smiled and said, “I like to do that, mama.” That kept her busy for days and she did make the prettiest handkerchief for her mother, and then she made one for her grandmother.
One year, her grandmother wanted to move to Hong Kong and wanted this little girl to go with her. When she left China and her family, she was five years old. Her grandmother loved her very much and took her everywhere she might go.
When this girl was in her fourth grade, they moved to this building and lived on the second floor and the first floor was a church. Every Sunday morning, she would hear the beautiful singing from the floor below. One Sunday, she asked her grandmother's permission going down stair to explore. She found many people gathering there to sing, to praise and to study the bible. Then she learned about the creator of all things. The faith was a little different from her grandmother's culture. She enjoyed the singing, praising and learning the gospel so she went back every Sunday morning.
In her junior high school, she had re-union with her family. They moved to New Territories that was away from the church. They lived in a high rise building. The living space might be small, yet they felt warm and cozy.
In her last year of high school, she got permission to immigrant to America with her parents and her little brother. Learning new language and learning new environment, she managed to finish high school, go on to college, and find job. In between all that, she met a wonderful young man, and then they got married building a family together. Soon she became a mother of four children. All four children are grown up now, working and serving the society.
When she learned about Speechcraft Program sponsored by Sevenseas Toastmasters through her son, she too wanted to be a speech crafter. She knew that it would a huge challenge for her because all these years she was a doer rather a talker. When she found she needed more practice, she joined the Speechcraft program for second time.
Life is full of challenge. This little girl accepted her mother's challenge, her grandma's challenge, and the church's challenge. When she grew up, she accepted her workplace's challenge, her husband's challenge, her children's challenge, and now the Toastmaster's challenge. She headed on every obstacle. Every challenge brings her new experience. And every experience prepares her for the next challenge. Whatever that new challenges maybe, she is hopeful and thankful and she is looking forward to it. I was that little girl.
