Happy Birthday to my Younger Daughter! It's a very special time wishing you the very best! May your new challenge come true!

Thanks to daughter for inviting me to a Mother-daughter team thirteen miles run. It's supposed happening in September and the practice run is in August. I have been preparing for the challenge, one step at a time. Now I can finish my thirteen-miles run/jog slowly and I need to work on my strength to run faster. Even though I might not be in the September race due to late registration, I will continue to practice, and strengthen more for the next opportunity. I am very thankful for the challenge and the encouragement.

People might think that I must be a runner. I was not when my daughter asked me in the end of May 2005, but I like to walk a lot. There are many reasons that I accept this seemingly impossible challenge. I accept the challenge because I am thrilled when my daughter considers me running and bonding with her. I accept the challenge because I like to get myself more fit. I accept the challenge because I feel good just thinking about achieving the new goal (thirteen-miles run).

Well, every challenge requires preparation. This is no exception especially I was not a runner starting out with. I have a lot of work to do. I know I must begin the training immediately in order to be ready by September(I have been training myself since June 1 for the event), but I also know that I must start slowing in order to be not overstressed. At First I assessed my ability and found the comfortable pace for two miles run/jog without huffing and puffing. On the first day, I finished three miles and did stretching exercise in between and at the end. When I got comfortable without hurting myself, then I increased to two miles + two miles. Then I increased three miles + two miles and so forth. Now I am able to do four miles + three miles+ three miles + three miles slowly, and of course stretch in between and at the end. Stretching is very important because it helps to squeeze out tension built up from running and prevent injure. If my shoes broke, I can buy a new pair; but if my body broke, I cannot afford a new one. Therefore I stretch a lot and pray a lot.

By the way, my old pair of shoes did break and now I get two pairs of running shoes for the price of one. And thank God that my body has not broken but got stronger. I have built my endurance from three miles to thirteen miles and my walking strength to run/jog strength. I still have to build up more strength for pushing farther each step.

Are you preparing for your new challenge? Of course you are. Even you are resting, you are always preparing and have that potential with or without your knowledge. But only if you know what is your challenge, it becomes more meaningful to you. So, do you have big dream? Make them your new challenge. Build on the skill or ability that you have already had. Take extra effort or steps each time; each step will bring you closer to your dream. Before you know, your dream will become true! Just like mine! Cheers!
