We did it! We are pretty satisfied with our end product. We are thankful for the beauty and the joy of working together and sharing this experience. Younger son and I have had this joined adventure replacing one row of tiles for the shower wall since November 2006. We had the courage to start because we did not like the way it was and we desired to explore the new challenge. We have nothing to lose but gain. This was my first time doing tiles and so as younger son and he also gained more experience in drilling and sawing.
We only worked on it a little bit at a time. It did not seem much work each time. We progressed slowly as following:
1) we took out the awful looking row of tiles;
2) we took out the old back board;
3) we measured and cut the plywood replacing the backboard to support the new grout and tiles;
4) we chiseled out the old grout which consumed the most time finding the right tools and doing the actually chiseling and cleaning;
5) We found the right color tiles and cut only three pieces (good that I attended some Home Depot workshops and got to know someone pointing me to the right people and had the job done. I am grateful for that.);
6) we laid the grout and set the tiles in place (the spacers did really help the job easier and neater) and finally cleaned up.
Today, we worked the longest hours to finish up. The color of the original tiles was discontinued but we found this place providing tiles with darker but same tone of color that came out very nice. We ordered the tiles while we were in November SF trip and the shipment took 2-3 weeks, which it's ok because we were not in a hurry. We knew we would finish slowly but surely. Seeing the finish row of tiles, I truly am thankful for the ability to endure this project.
Today's quote:
"You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence with eternal pleasures at your right hand." Psalm 16:11
